Silk has been considered the most prestigious material in the world of men's accessories for centuries, and the pocket square is its most discreet application. Unlike fibres of plant origin, silk has an exceptional smoothness and lightness, allowing it to settle into the breast pocket with natural ease — filling the space gently without overstuffing it. It is this very pliancy that allows both classic folds and the more relaxed puff style to hold their shape throughout the day.
Jacquard and printed silk — two fabrics, two characters
The pocket squares in the Tiestore.pl collection are made from two types of silk that differ in how their pattern comes into being. Jacquard silk has its design woven directly into the fabric structure on a Jacquard loom — it is somewhat crisper to the touch, permanent, and does not fade, while the play of light across the weave gives it a depth no print can replicate. Printed silk offers greater fluidity and unlimited freedom of colour — paisley, polka dots, botanical and geometric motifs that could never be achieved through jacquard weaving. Silk's natural capacity to absorb dye intensely produces rich, precise colours in both techniques.
Hand-rolled edges — a craft no machine can replicate
The vast majority of silk pocket squares in the Tiestore.pl collection are finished with hand-rolled edges at our Warsaw atelier — a technique that demands time and skill, and one no machine has ever successfully reproduced. The fabric is cut with close attention to the symmetry of the pattern, and the hand-rolled, generously filled hem becomes an ornament in its own right, visible regardless of how the square is folded. It is a detail that still looks impeccable after years of wear.
Pairing with the rest of the ensemble
A silk pocket square should echo the colour of the tie or shirt, but should never be cut from the identical fabric as the tie — this contrast in texture between pieces is what signals a deliberate, considered approach to dress rather than mere matching. Jacquard suits more formal and evening contexts; printed silk suits smart casual and more relaxed dressing. The Tiestore.pl atelier will make a pocket square from fabric outside the current collection on individual commission.
