Return to jacquard

A morning in the office, a meeting at the law firm, an after-work dinner – a silk jacquard tie suits each of these occasions, as from a distance it appears in a subtle colour, whilst up close it reveals the pattern woven into the fabric. A navy houndstooth to go with a grey suit, stripes in the style of English club ties to complement autumnal browns and greens, navy and mustard with a white shirt: these are the combinations we’ve brought together in our collection of jacquard ties available at the Tiestore.pl Tailoring Workshop in Warsaw. Italian silk ensures the very highest quality of fabric. Simply choose a colour that complements your suit and a pattern on a different scale to that on your shirt.

Jacquard tie – what is jacquard silk?

A jacquard tie is a tie made from a fabric in which the pattern is created within the very structure of the material, on a jacquard loom invented by Joseph-Marie Jacquard in 1801. Jacquard silk differs from printed silk: the design is not applied to the surface but is woven from the interlacing of the threads, which is why it is durable, does not fade and does not wear away. The fabric also has a delicate, tactile texture to the pattern. This is the most important difference to bear in mind when choosing between a jacquard silk tie and a printed one.

Silk ties from Como – Italian silk

Como, in Lombardy, has been the silk capital of Europe since the 15th century, and it is there that the family-run weaving mills from which Tiestore.pl’s tie fabrics originate are based. The ties in this collection are made from Italian silk. We have compiled jacquards with a grainy, matt weave – which may be reminiscent of grenadine, although this is actually silk jacquard – into a separate collection. Authentic grenadine is woven by just two manufacturers, Fermo Fossati and Seteria Bianchi, and has its own dedicated category.

Which jacquard tie to choose: stripes, houndstooth, geometric patterns

Striped jacquard ties form the largest group: navy with mustard, green with brown and beige, burgundy with cream and a grey herringbone pattern, sky blue with white, and navy with brown stripes. Houndstooth is available in navy-and-white, black-and-white and brown versions, whilst a checked tie in navy and grey offers a more understated alternative. Geometric and fine patterns include dark green with beige, navy with sky blue, , black with purple and silver stripes.

A jacquard tie to go with a suit and shirt

The easiest way to start is with a navy blue and grey suit and a white or light blue shirt: almost any jacquard from this collection will suit such an outfit. With a plain shirt, the pattern on the tie can be bold, such as wide club stripes. With a checked or striped shirt, it’s best to choose a tie with a finer pattern so that the designs don’t clash. Browns, greens and burgundy go well with a brown or grey jacket, whilst a black tie with purple works well with a dark suit.

Jacquard ties for every season and occasion

In autumn and winter, opt for burgundy, green, brown and navy blue with a touch of mustard. In spring and summer, light yellows, blues and cobalt look best. Houndstooth and subtle geometric patterns are ideal for the office and law firm; for a family celebration or a wedding as a guest, opt for stripes in navy or blue with white; and for dinner or a trip to the opera, choose black with purple. A well-chosen jacquard tie makes all the difference, even with the simplest of suits.
